Solutions HOCL™ Cistern & Catchment Bomb™ Shock Treatment + Heavy-Duty Cleaner - 100G
Description
Description
Cistern & Catchment Shock Treatment & Heavy Duty Water Tank Cleaner – 100 g
Stored water systems often develop slime, organic buildup, and unpleasant odors over time—especially in cisterns, catchment tanks, roofs, and gutters. This buildup can make water appear dirty, smell bad, and require heavy cleaning to reset the system.
Our HOCL-based Shock Treatment & Heavy Duty Cleaner is designed as a powerful, one-time deep clean solution that targets these common problems at their source. Using Natural Oxidation Technology™, it helps break down organic film, lift residue from tank surfaces, and neutralize odor-causing compounds—restoring your system before switching to simple monthly maintenance.
This 100 g size treats up to 5,000 gallons, making it ideal for standard residential cisterns or multiple smaller tanks.
Why HOCL-Based Natural Oxidation Technology™
Hypochlorous acid (HOCL) is an oxidizing compound generated when NaDCC (sodium dichloroisocyanurate) dissolves in water. As an oxidizer, HOCL breaks down the organic compounds that accumulate as slime and organic film on cistern and catchment water storage tank surfaces, including:
- Proteins, from leaf litter, insects, and bird droppings entering your rainwater catchment system
- Fatty acids, from environmental runoff and organic debris in stored water
- Amines, from decaying organic matter in cisterns and rainwater tanks
- Sulfur compounds, from decomposing natural material that causes unpleasant odors in stored water
After the oxidation reaction, the active ingredient converts primarily into salts and water, reducing chemical residue in your cistern or catchment tank system. HOCL chemistry is widely studied and referenced in environmental cleaning literature for its oxidizing properties. Visit our Scientific Studies page for published research on hypochlorous acid.
Ideal for These Cistern and Catchment Water Systems
- Rainwater catchment cisterns showing visible slime, organic film, odor, or discoloration on tank walls
- Off-grid homes, rural properties, and farms relying on stored rainwater tank systems for daily use
- Large rainwater storage tanks and multi-building cistern systems needing periodic heavy-duty tank cleaning
- Properties wanting an eco-conscious water tank cleaner alternative that works without bleach or harsh chemicals
- Anyone who wants a one-time Shock Treatment reset, then uses our Monthly Maintenance & Light Cleaner for ongoing cistern care in between
How to Use the Cistern & Catchment Shock Treatment (100G)
Directions for cistern and catchment tank cleaning:
- Determine your total tank volume in gallons across the cistern or catchment tanks you plan to clean.
- Dose at 20 grams per 1,000 gallons of tank volume. The full 100 g package treats a single 5,000-gallon cistern or multiple smaller rainwater storage tanks.
- Add the measured amount directly into tank water or into inflow as the tank fills.
- Allow at least 1 hour of contact time. For heavy organic buildup on tank surfaces, allow several hours until water clears.
- Skim off floating organic debris released from tank surfaces during treatment.
- Tank surfaces typically stay visibly cleaner for about one month. Then switch to our Cistern & Catchment Monthly Maintenance & Light Cleaner for ongoing cistern cleaning between Shock Treatments.
- Repeat the Shock Treatment only as needed. Regular monthly maintenance reduces how often a full cistern shock clean is required.

Key Benefits
- Treats 5,000 gallons (20 g per 1,000 gallons)
- Helps break down slime, organic film, and odor-causing residues
- HOCL-based Natural Oxidation Technology™ using NaDCC
- Works on tank surfaces, roofs, and gutters feeding your system
- Eco-friendly & septic-friendly, breaks down into salts and water
- Designed to be used with Monthly Maintenance & Light Cleaner
How It Works
When added to water, the formula generates hypochlorous acid (HOCL)—a powerful oxidizing molecule that reacts with organic contaminants such as proteins, fats, and sulfur compounds. This reaction helps lift buildup from surfaces and neutralize odors, leaving your system visibly cleaner.
Important Note
This product is not NSF 60 Certified and not EPA registered.
It is sold as a cistern and catchment tank cleaner, not as a disinfectant or sanitizer.

Heavy-Duty Cleaning for Cistern and Catchment Tanks
Shock-treat your cistern or catchment tank with HOCL-Based Natural Oxidation Technology™. Our granular formula is designed to help lift organic film, break down slime buildup, and neutralize odor-causing residues on tank surfaces making it easier to maintain cleaner tank over time.
Use as your initial deep clean, then follow with our Monthly Maintenance & Light Cleaner to help keep buildup from returning.

How HOCL-Based Natural Oxidation Technology™ Works on Organic Buildup
Organic compounds commonly found in tanks:
- Proteins (from leaf litter, insects, bird droppings)
- Fatty acids (from environmental runoff)
- Amines (from decaying organic matter)
- Sulfur compounds (from decomposing natural material)
What Happens If Not Neutralized:
When these organic compounds accumulate in stored water tanks, they can cause visible slime and biofilm on tank surfaces, unpleasant odors, and discoloration — making regular tank cleaning an important part of maintaining stored water systems.
Product Benefits:
- Helps break down organic film and slime buildup on tank surfaces and tank components
- Designed to reduce how often heavy-duty deep cleaning is needed when used with Monthly Maintenance & Light Cleaner
- Helps reduce odor-causing organic residues in cistern and catchment tank systems
4 Easy Steps to Clean Your Tank
